Welcome to The Road Taught Me

Because Sometimes the Greatest Lessons in Life Are Learned Between the Handlebars

If you’ve found your way here, first of all… welcome.

My name is Dave, and motorcycles have shaped a huge part of my life.

Over the years, I’ve worn a lot of helmets — literally and figuratively. I’ve been a motorcycle rider coach, a retired police motorcycle officer, an accident investigator, a long-distance rider, and most importantly… someone who has learned that motorcycles teach lessons far beyond simply twisting the throttle and leaning into a curve.

That understanding is exactly why The Road Taught Me exists.

This isn’t just another motorcycle website.

This isn’t simply a place to post ride videos, product reviews, or scenic roads — although you’ll certainly find plenty of that here.

At its core, this community is about something deeper.

It’s about the lessons the road teaches all of us.

Because every mile has something to say.

Sometimes the road teaches patience.

Sometimes it teaches confidence.

Sometimes it teaches humility.

And sometimes… life teaches its hardest lessons when we least expect them.

I know that firsthand.

In 2014, while serving as a police motorcycle officer, my life changed forever when I was struck from behind by a distracted driver traveling nearly 75 miles per hour.

It was a crash I was never expected to survive.

The injuries were catastrophic.

The recovery was long.

The road ahead was uncertain.

But through faith, perseverance, and the grace of God, I was given a second chance.

And somewhere during that journey, I realized something powerful.

The road had been teaching me lessons my entire life.

Not just about riding.

But about resilience.

About preparation.

About responsibility.

About slowing down enough to appreciate the journey.

About never taking a single mile for granted.

That realization eventually led me here.

Through this channel, this website, and this growing community, I want to share everything the road has taught me.

You’ll find motorcycle adventures across some incredible roads.

You’ll find riding techniques and safety lessons I’ve learned through years of teaching and experience.

You’ll find stories from the road.

Lessons learned the hard way.

Honest conversations about risk, responsibility, and becoming better riders.

And sometimes…

You’ll find reminders that the lessons motorcycles teach us often have very little to do with motorcycles at all.

Because riding isn’t just transportation.

It isn’t simply recreation.

For many of us, it becomes part of who we are.

It reminds us what freedom feels like.

It clears our minds.

It challenges us.

It humbles us.

It reconnects us with things we often lose sight of in everyday life.

And that is what I hope this community becomes.

A place where riders can learn.

A place where riders can grow.

A place where adventure and wisdom meet.

A place where we remember why we started riding in the first place.

So whether you’re a seasoned rider, a brand new rider, someone chasing adventure, or simply someone who understands that life itself is a journey…

I’m glad you’re here.

The road has taught me a lot.

And I have a feeling…

It still has plenty left to teach both of us.

Ride safe.

Stay humble.

Never stop learning.

And remember…

The road doesn’t just take you somewhere.

It teaches you something every single time you ride.
